Haivision ships Makito ONE single-blade dual-channel encoder/decoder

Haivision announced the Makito ONE ahead of NAB 2026, a compact blade that consolidates dual-channel encoding and decoding with support for H.264, HEVC, and JPEG XS codecs. The device handles 4K, HD, and HDR at ultra-low latency over SDI and SMPTE ST 2110, with SRT protocol support for contribution over unmanaged networks.

The blade design lets operators scale incrementally: a single blade provides two channels of encode or decode, and a 4RU chassis accommodates up to 18 hot-swappable blades for a total of 36 channels. That modularity is aimed directly at multi-venue live sports and news workflows where spare-parts management and rack space are persistent operational constraints.

"Makito ONE represents a major step forward for live broadcast contribution," said Jean-Marc Racine, CPO and EVP Broadcast at Haivision. The codec flexibility — H.264 for broad compatibility, HEVC for efficiency, JPEG XS for near-lossless contribution — on a single blade reduces the need for separate hardware per codec tier, which has historically complicated contribution facility design.
