Sennheiser Spectera SKM Handheld adds Neumann capsules and remote gain

Sennheiser is showing the Spectera SKM Handheld Transmitter at NAB 2026, a new hardware addition to the Spectera wireless platform that brings wireless handheld microphone capability alongside the existing beltpack and infrastructure products. The SKM is compatible with Neumann capsule heads including the KK 104 A and KK 105 A, and bi-directional functionality enables remote control of gain and low-cut parameters from the receiving end — a workflow convenience for broadcast crews where the talent and the sound operator are not co-located.

The transmitter features an OLED display and lightweight aluminum housing. Sennheiser has stated the SKM is designed for eventual compatibility with third-party capsule brands beyond Sennheiser and Neumann, positioning the hardware as an open handheld platform rather than a closed proprietary system. The SKM is scheduled for release in September 2026.

The Spectera SKM complements the previously announced Spectera OpenAPI integration — which focuses on control system connectivity — by adding a new physical transmitter form factor. The Neumann capsule compatibility in particular targets broadcast and news gathering environments where Neumann condenser characteristics are valued for voice capture, and reflects the ongoing integration between the Sennheiser and Neumann product lines following their shared Sennheiser Group parentage.
