Vizrt AI Keyer pulls talent from any background without green screens

Vizrt has launched the AI Keyer, a tool that separates foreground talent from backgrounds in real time without green screens or specialist lighting rigs. The system is trained on real-world footage across varied environments and lighting conditions, and allows production teams to swap virtual backgrounds, insert AR graphics, or place remote contributors into virtual sets from any location.

The practical use cases Vizrt cites span news segments where location changes mid-broadcast, virtual advertising walls behind post-match interviewees, and enterprise town halls where contributors dial in from standard office settings. Eliminating the green-screen requirement reduces both the physical infrastructure and the pre-production setup time that virtual production workflows have traditionally demanded.

"Creating XR environments typically demands large infrastructure investments," said Edouard Griveaud, Senior Product Manager at Vizrt. "The Vizrt AI Keyer removes all these constraints." The product will be on show at Vizrt's NAB booth N2161 starting when the exhibit hall opens April 19.

The launch fits into a broader pre-show pattern of AI tools targeting production steps — keying, color, highlight generation — that have historically required specialist equipment or offline processing, and moving them into real-time, software-defined pipelines.
