AJA Video Systems acquires GPU encoding firm Comprimato

AJA Video Systems announced an agreement to acquire Comprimato, a Czech developer of GPU-powered live video encoding and processing software. The deal brings Comprimato's engineering team and IP directly into AJA's product development pipeline, with the stated goal of accelerating the BRIDGE LIVE IP streaming product family.

Comprimato's portfolio includes its Live Transcoder, Live Standards Conversion tool, Twenty-One SMPTE ST 2110 encoding appliance, and JPEG 2000 Codec SDK — all of which align closely with AJA's existing hardware-software integration strategy. Comprimato will continue to operate as a separate brand with its European offices retained, and CEO Jiří Matela along with the full team will join AJA upon closing. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition is a notable move in a market where hardware vendors are increasingly acquiring software-layer companies to deliver complete, vertically integrated IP video workflows. For AJA — historically a hardware-first company — owning GPU encoding software removes a dependency on third-party software partners and positions the combined entity to iterate faster on ST 2110 and cloud-connected workflows. "The synergies between our companies and technology are undeniable, and together, we'll be able to address rapidly evolving customer needs faster than ever," said Nick Rashby, AJA Video Systems.
