Synamedia Quortex PowerVu cuts affiliate distribution costs by up to 80%

Synamedia is unveiling an updated Quortex PowerVu at NAB 2026 (booth W2851), a cloud-native platform designed to replace traditional satellite-to-IP broadcast distribution for US broadcasters managing 200–250 affiliates. The platform distributes national feeds to affiliates over a CDN; each affiliate then assembles its own customized linear service at the edge using only the content segments it actually requires, without decoding and re-encoding the complete national feed.

Synamedia says this architecture can reduce costs and operational complexity by up to 80%, eliminating on-premises infrastructure, vendor lock-in, and high energy consumption. The model also opens direct dynamic ad insertion opportunities at the affiliate level, something traditional satellite distribution did not support. "Each affiliate then creates fully customized linear services using only the content it needs at the edge. This results in scalable localization, more flexibility to respond to breaking news or lineup changes and higher system availability," the company said.

Kenelm Deen will present three sessions at the show covering B2B distribution strategies. The Quortex PowerVu approach is positioned at a specific inflection point: US affiliates that have already migrated off satellite uplinks but still operate on-premises contribution gear and find the operational overhead high relative to their scale.
